Nikah Invitation Wording: Muslim Wedding Card Examples (Nikah and Walima)

By the PixerInvite team · 7 min read · Updated 6 October 2026

A Nikah invitation usually opens with Bismillah, names both families, and invites guests to the Nikah and then the Walima — often on different days, with the Walima hosted by the groom's family. Here's wording you can copy for each, and what to include so guests know where to be and when.

What are the Nikah and the Walima?

The Nikah is the marriage contract itself, and the Walima is the wedding feast that follows it. The Nikah is typically followed by a celebratory reception, and the Walima is generally hosted and paid for by the groom's side — which is why many families send it as its own invitation.

How do you write Bismillah on a wedding card?

At the very top, either in Arabic script or as "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful". Families who prefer not to print Arabic on a card that may be thrown away often choose a digital invitation, or the English translation.

Should the Nikah and Walima be on one invitation?

Either works. One card with both functions keeps things simple when the same guests are invited to both; separate invitations make sense when the Walima's guest list is larger, or when each family is sending to its own side.

Can a Nikah invitation be digital?

Yes — and each function can carry its own date, time and map link, so the Nikah and the Walima never get mixed up. PixerInvite's Chand Nikah opens as carved marble jaali doors part onto a moonlit courtyard of jasmine and white roses, and starts with Bismillah as its blessing; Emerald Nikah is a Premium alternative. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a Nikah and a Walima?

The Nikah is the marriage ceremony and contract; the Walima is the wedding feast after it, usually hosted by the groom's family.

Who sends the Walima invitation?

Usually the groom's family, since the Walima is traditionally hosted and paid for by the groom's side.

What goes at the top of a Nikah card?

Bismillah — in Arabic or as "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful".

Can the Nikah and Walima be on the same invitation?

Yes. One invitation with both functions is simplest when the same guests attend both; separate ones suit different guest lists.

Does PixerInvite have a Nikah design?

Yes — PixerInvite's Chand Nikah opens onto a moonlit courtyard of jasmine and white roses and starts with Bismillah, and Emerald Nikah is a Premium alternative.
